Canal+ Expands Premier League Broadcast to Over 50 Countries, Including Myanmar
On August 14, 2025, French media giant Canal+ announced a major expansion of its international broadcast rights for the English Premier League, now covering more than 50 countries across Europe, Africa, and Asia for the 2025–2026 football season. Notably, the deal includes Myanmar for the first time, alongside strengthened rights in key markets like Poland.
This move cements Canal+’s position as a long-time partner of the Premier League—a relationship spanning over 30 years—while significantly widening its global audience. According to the group, the extended coverage now has the potential to reach over 1.5 billion people.
The new territories include France, Poland, Mauritius, Haiti, French-speaking Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Vietnam, Myanmar, and sub-Saharan Africa.
Localized Coverage, Global Reach
Canal+ will deliver comprehensive programming across these regions, featuring top-tier matchups, star players, and key fixtures from the English football calendar. Each market will benefit from localized commentary, provided by regional football specialists to tailor the experience for each audience.
One of the main attractions will be a Saturday matchday multiplex, broadcasting four live matches simultaneously, accessible across much of Europe, Africa, and now Myanmar. This will be supplemented by an array of editorial and behind-the-scenes content, including dedicated shows, exclusive documentaries, interviews, pre-match build-ups, and post-match analysis.
Sport as a Strategic Asset
With this expanded Premier League deal, Canal+ is doubling down on its strategy to position premium sports content at the heart of its international offering. As competition intensifies in the streaming and pay-TV markets, sport—particularly football—remains a key retention and growth driver for subscriber bases.
The Premier League, regarded as the world’s most watched domestic football league, continues to be a powerful asset for broadcasters seeking to engage global audiences. Canal+’s latest move not only enhances its sports portfolio but also underscores the group’s commitment to remaining a dominant player in international sports broadcasting.
